Panel Description
The ever-increasing use of disruptive technologies in education, seeks to improve the way in which teachers and learners interact within a classroom, whereas in a remote, hybrid, or in-person environment. The introduction of innovative learning platforms that incorporate Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (VR, AR, and MR), along with the use of multimodal devices that track visual, spoken, spatial, emotional, and neuronal attributes, has allowed researchers and faculty members to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions taking place in such environments. Furthermore, the development of scientific fields such as Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Vision (CV), Machine Learning (ML), Educational Data Mining (EDM), Learning Analytics (LA), and Multimodal Learning Analytics (MMLA), has promoted the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to translate data traces into pedagogical constructs, behavioral and environmental factors, learning indicators, and actionable feedback. These prominent fields of study aim to close the gap between technology (i.e, tools) and pedagogy (i.e., theory) in Physical, Phygital, and Cyber-Physical learning environments. This panel aims at sharing multiple initiatives and projects taking place at the Institute for the Future of Education (Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), which focus on improving the teaching and learning process through the use of AI.
