Artificial Intelligence Global Education Network (AIGEN)

The Institute for the Future of Education at Tecnologico de Monterrey has created the AI Global Education Network (AIGEN), a community of practice aimed to catalyze the adoption of AI in Higher Education by:

  • Fostering the adoption of AI tools and platforms.
  • Advising on creating institutional guidelines for its ethical and responsible use.
  • Providing open educational resources and training on the pedagogical use of AI.
  • Creating a space for sharing experiences among universities.
  • Measuring AI impact on teaching and learning.
  • Joint development of open-source AI tools.

AIGEN Pillars

The network will be active and grow by providing universities access to resources, learning experiences, and the opportunity to share and work collaboratively on these three pillars.

  • Software
  • Teaching & Learning
  • Research
  • Explore commercial and open-source AI tools for education.
  • Document experiences on the adoption of AI tools.
  • Promote the development of open-source AI tools for education.
  • Institutional guidelines for the ethical and responsible use of AI.
  • Training for teachers and students on the use of AI tools.
  • Reshaping the curriculum to include the skills of AI for the future of work.
  • Design of AI-enhanced Learning Experiences.
  • Data Collection: Surveys and AI tools usage statistics.
  • Evaluate the impact of GenAI applications in Education:
    • Learning Support
    • Creation of Learning Materials
    • Learning Feedback and Assessment
  • Impact of AI on critical thinking development.

AIGEN Institutional Membership

Institutions represented in the AIGEN network will be able to:

  • Participate in user trails and pilots with AI tools promoted through the network.
  • Collaborative in the development of IA Tools.
  • Access to training courses and educational resources.
  • Propose research projects in collaboration with other AIGEN members.
  • Share experiences in the adoption of AI tools and platforms.

Institutions must appoint a representative.

Activities

The first activities of the network are:

  1. TECgpt Open Edition Pilot: We are supporting 12 universities in running a use case during Aug-Dec'25 with an open-source GenAI platform. We expect to document and learn from their implementations.
  2. DEC AI Survey for LATAM: In collaboration with the Digital Education Council, we adapted their Global AI Faculty and Student Survey to our regional context. 21 universities are participating in their application during Aug-Oct 2025. The results will be presented at the IFE Conference 2026 in January 2026.

Participating institutions

Currently, more than 50 universities have asked for admission, and 34 of them have been formally accepted; most of the members are from Latin America. In addition to a Steering Committee, four other committees have been formed (Technology, Faculty Development, Research, and Ethics), from which we expect collaborative initiatives to arise.

Some of the participant institutions are presented in the following list:

  • Argentina (1)
  • Chile (4)
  • Colombia (3)
