Seminar Abstract
In this Living Lab & Data Hub seminar, you will discover an innovative and powerful approach to educational research using data mining techniques. Dr. Camacho, an expert in the field, will present some of her recent publications to show how text analysis can transform the way we address educational challenges.
Participants will learn about the achievements and scope of modern educational research, including how text analytics and data mining can help us better understand the challenges we face in the context of online and emergency education. You will discover how these powerful tools can help students, faculty, and institutions improve the quality of teaching-learning and make informed decisions regarding learning and assessment.
The seminar will cover a variety of relevant topics, including a contextual model for analyzing students' evaluations of their professors and faculty insights after the shift from face-to-face to online teaching due to the COVID-19 contingency. A study on college student's perspective on being effective online during lockdown due to the pandemic and an innovative strategy for using fictional films in student-centered learning will also be presented.

About the Speaker
Claudia Camacho-Zuñiga is an experienced and research-focused science professor with more than 25 years of experience in higher education transformation and innovation. She holds a PhD in Materials Science from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering and a degree in Engineering Physics from the Universidad Iberoamericana. During her graduate studies, she acquired additional skills as a data practitioner, working to establish structure-property relationships for polymers and solvents.
As a leading academic, Camacho-Zuñiga is the author of three university textbooks on Physics and Mathematics and founder of Sistema Tlamatini. This aims to develop mathematical reasoning skills in children and adolescents and was awarded Best Social Entrepreneurship by the H. Ayuntamiento de Toluca in 2015.
Her research in STEM education for citizenship, inclusion and gender equality has earned her recognition as a member of the National System of Researchers Level I and more than 300 citations, including a mention by the World Health Organization for her work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, she is a researcher at the Institute for the Future of Education and a professor at the School of Engineering and Sciences of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Toluca, Mexico. In recent years, she has been working to inspire a passion for science, ethical and civic responsibility, and an appreciation for diversity in both undergraduates and academics.
Her ultimate goal is to use her experience as a researcher, teacher, entrepreneur and data practitioner to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and foster the development of integral human resources, capable of addressing societal challenges and ensuring a better future for all.
