Computer Science Engineer by Instituto Tecnologico de Pachuca, PhD on Computer Science by Tecnologico de Monterrey (EdoMex). She is ascribed to the Research Group on Machine Learning, member of the SNI (Candidate), adherent member of the Mexican Academy on Computing (AMEXCOMP) and researcher member of CONACYT Thematic Network on Computational Intelligence (RedICA).

Joanna is author of articles published in journals and conferences, and she has participated in multiple projects promoting research and innovation in ICTs, the adoption of the Open Source Framework FIWARE, and the development of Smart Cities platforms in Mexico and Europe.

Currently she collaborates in an interdisciplinary research project with the Government School for the detection of fake news on Twitter, sponsored by the US Government and in collaboration with LA universities. She also has active research on Chatbots, Internet of Things, and Semantic Web.
