Dr. Genaro Zavala is the current leader of the Socially Oriented Interdisciplinary STEM Education Research Group (SOI-STEM) in Tecnológico de Monterrey, as well as a full professor of undergraduate studies in the School of Engineering and Sciences. Dr. Zavala holds the researcher level 2 from the National System of Researchers of Mexico (SNI). His research interests are conceptual understanding, active learning, development of assessment tools, faculty development, and studies in STEM. He is a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), the Committee on Research in Physics Education (RIPE), and the International Education Committee. He has been part of the editorial board of the Physical Review Special Topics-Physics Education Research journal of the American Physical Society (2015-2018), vice president of the Latin American Physics Education Network (LAPEN) (2013-2015), and an elected member of Leadership Organizing Physics Education Research Council (PERLOC) (2015-2018).
