Living Labs have sprung around the globe as key and effective research infrastructures, involving several stakeholders (e.g. companies, citizens, researchers, students, etc.) in a user-centered, iterative, open innovation ecosystem, where co-creation takes place in a real-life environment. Their activities involve disciplines such as energy efficiency, smart cities, applied teaching in sustainability, mobility, assisted living, health-care, among many others. The Living Lab approach and environment promises an effective tool for innovative research and an increased product and service understanding, improvement, and acceptance by its end-users.
